dimap communications founds team for internet governance

Published in: 24.02.2010

Berlin – Today, there is no way around the internet in modern public affairs consulting. New forms of digital communications put the political dialogue with different stakeholders on a new basis where formal communication hierarchies only have a limited influence. On the other hand, there is a heated debate since the last general election about how the internet can and should be regulated. Policy makers have to find a balance between collective security and individual freedom.

In order to reproduce this whole range of topics in full, dimap communications has founded a team for “Internet Governance and Digital Communications”. “The team will bundle the whole range of services that we offer – from public affairs to communications and polling – and prepare them for our clients”, says senior consultant Daniel Florian who will also head the new team. Among other things, dimap communications is planning a series of events on internet governance in the historic Ermelerhaus, where the agency is located. Issues include net neutrality, digital civil rights and e-participation. Also, dimap communications is offering research internships for students who want to write their Bachelor or Master thesis on internet governance and related topics. In addition to financial support, the agency also offers contacts to interview partners in politics, business and business associations. Finally, the agency is planning to publish surveys and memos on their website.

“The foundation of a team for ‘Internet Governance’ is a consequent step that follows from the increasing importance of ICT issues in the current legislative period”, says Ralf Welt, Managing Partner at dimap communications. Already during the election campaign in 2009, dimap communications co-operated with the online platform wahl.de and created an index for the likelihood of re-election for the members of the 16. German Bundestag.
